After talks‚ Terai outfit hands over guns to govt

The Pawan-led Sanyukta Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha, an armed outfit, laid down its weapons on Saturday after holding the “peace negotiations” with the government. The underground armed group was operating in some districts of eastern Terai for five years. Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Satya Pahadi, who led the talks team on behalf of the government, and Morcha’s Co-ordinator Pawan (Prahlad Giri) signed a four-point agreement after holding the talks for two hours here in Birgunj today. Amid a special programme organised, the Morcha handed over eight homemade guns. The first round of talks was held on August 13. Speaking at the programme, Minister Pahadi expressed happiness over the Morcha’s decision to choose the path of peace by giving up the violence. The mainsiter said that the government has prioritised conflict management, and urged other armed groups to come to the table for talks. Pawan said that the Morcha has entered the peaceful politics because the peace and the constitution are need of the hour.THT
